The Putnam Lab is thrilled to welcome a new postdoc into the group, Dr. Nisha Kannan! Dr. Kannan has been a long-time “unofficial” member of Club Putnam, having collaborated extensively with Dr. Curley on past projects. She received her PhD in Molecular Medicine from the Norwegian University of Science & Technology in 2018 and is an expert in immunology and vaccine development. Welcome Dr. Kannan, we are so happy to have you!

Dr. Curley Becomes Professor Curley
Dr. Curley has accepted a position as the Mary H. and Richard K. Templeton Assistant Professor in the Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering Department at Union College in Schenectady, New York. She will begin teaching in the fall and will establish her own lab to train undergraduates in vaccine development and bioconjugate chemistry. Congratulations Dr. Curley! We will miss you!
Cara and Mariela Attend the CRS Annual Meeting + Cara Wins Poster Award
Cara and Mariela attended the Controlled Release Society Annual Meeting in Montreal July 11th-15th. For her research poster, Cara was awarded a 2022 Merck GRAD Award, given “in recognition of excellent contributions to the field of controlled release.” Congratulations Cara!
Dr. Curley Publishes in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Dr. Curley’s review article, “Biological Nanoparticles in Vaccine Development,” was published in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology in the March 2022 issue. Congratulations Dr. Curley!
Ruben Presents at ORS 2022

Cara Passes Her A Exam

The Putnam Lab attended the 2021 BMES Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL, where Ruben presented a poster and Cara presented a podium talk. We even found time to visit Epcot for a day. Our first in-person meeting in over a year!
Dr. Putnam Named Associate Dean for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
As of February 15th, 2021, Dr. Putnam has been named the inaugural Associate Dean for Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the College of Engineering. In this three-year position, he will oversee all activities in the college related to entrepreneurship and technology transfer and implement the college’s mission to elevate its national stature as a center for innovation and commercialization. Congratulations Dr. Putnam!
